Chidambaram stadium
The Chidambaram stadium is one of the oldest and renowned cricket stadiums in India. The stadium was established in the year 1916 by the East Coast Construction and Company. It is named after the former President of BCCI and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Sri M.A. Chidambaram. The stadium was earlier known by the name of Chepauk Stadium or Madras Cricket Club Ground.

Infrastructure of Chidambaram stadium
This is one of the largest stadiums of India. The ground has an arena with a sitting capacity to accommodate 50, 000 spectators at a time. The ground has a bouncy pitch which serves great for both the batsmen and bowlers but in the recent times the pitch has become flatter.
The Chidambaram Stadium has two ends, namely the Anna Pavilion end and the V Pattabhiraman Gate End. The stadium is equipped with floodlights and a well equipped drainage system.
Outlook of Chidambaram stadium
The Chidambaram Stadium has witnessed many records and thrilling matches. The first International test cricket match was held on 10th February, 1934 and one-day in October 19th, 1987. It was in this very ground where team India won its first Test match by defeating England in 1952. This is the home ground for both Tamil Nadu Cricket team and the famous IPL team, the Chennai Super Kings, which is led by the present Indian Skipper, M.S Dhoni.
This stadium also witnessed the top score of the ODI cricket, by Saeed Anwar when he smashed his 194 runs against India, which is unbroken till date.
The last test match held over here was on 11th December, 2008, between India and England and the last ODI played was on 10th June, 2007, between Africa XI and Asia XI.
