Green Park stadium

The formerly known Modi Stadium is now earning its fame by the name of Green Park Stadium. It is a multipurpose ground situated in the city of Kanpur, in Uttar Pradesh. The stadium was established in the year 1945.

This is an International stadium and had been hosting both Test and One Day International Cricket Matches. But in the year 2006, by the order of ICC the stadium was deprived from the list of International venue due to its low maintenance and poor management.

The Green Park stadium is located in the Civil Lines of Kanpur near the river Ganges, in Uttar Pradesh.

The arena of the Green Park Stadium can accommodate up to 45,000 spectators at a time. The stadium has two ends, namely the Mill Pavilion end and the Hostel End. From the time of its establishment, the pitch is serving in the favour of the spinners.

Many modernisations and repairing have been done to make the Green Park stadium meet the requirements of an International Cricket stadium. The old flood lights are replaced with new hi-tech ones. The pitch of the ground is modified with better techniques and even the sitting arrangements in the arena are also being re-modified.

Outlook of Green Park stadium

The Green Park stadium is a renowned ground of Uttar Pradesh. This is the home ground for the Uttar Pradesh Cricket team. It hosted its first International test match on 12th January, 1952, between India and England and its first One Day International match on 24th December, 1986, between India and Sri Lanka.
In this ground, India recorded its first victory against the World Champion, Australia in the year 1959. This ground is one of the luckiest grounds of team India, where many records are created and broken.
Green Park stadium hosted its last test match on 11th April 2008, between India and Pakistan and the last ODI on 9th November, 2007, between the same India and Pakistan.

How to Reach Green park stadium

Green park stadium is an international stadium situated at civil lines in Kanpur. The transportation facility of Kanpur is very good. There are many taxis, buses and auto-rickshaw which can go green park stadium from Kanpur railway station. By Air one can land at Luckhnow Airport which is at a distance of 65 kms from Kanpur. From Kanpur, it is about 2.5 hours.
