Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is a famous international stadium at Kochi, Kerala. It is also famous with the name Kaloor International stadium.
Importance of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
It is also used at time of international cricket matches, various exhibitions, cinema and political rallies. The best part of this stadium is its lighting. It has lighting tower of about 2KW which can give lighting of HDTV telecast. Its lightning tower is unique in India.
History of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
It was established in 1996 by K. Karunakaran as a chief minister of Kerala. It is the third largest stadium in India with a capacity of 75000 visitors. Actually it was constructed as a football stadium. Nehru Cup international Football tournament was the first tournament conducted in 1997.Almost one lakh audience had visited in this tournament during INDIA vs IRAQ match. Although any tournaments were played, the highest money earned by the one day internationals played at the stadium. ODI between INDIA vs. AUSTRALIA was the first ODI which was played on 1st April, 1998.
