Rural Olympics

India’s rural Olympics which takes place in Kaila Raipur which is a small village in Punjab is not like its famous namesake international event that takes place every four years and includes athletes from all area of all corners of the world, having said that it is no less competitive and easy as most of its events were made test to test the limits and boundaries of the human body and mind, the event takes place every year and even though its organizers do not spend millions of dollars for organizing the same its athletes which include farmers and some of India’s finest athletes from all villages of the region take the events very seriously and the competition seems a lot of fun.

Tradional Rural Sports

The competition is now in its 74th year running and is a three day event some of the events are similar to the international Olympics including events such as Hockey which is very famous in the country, many track and field events some other traditional rural sports, Kabbadi and Tug Of war, there is no age bar for its participants with some of ages ranging from 7years to 70 years old athletes.

Famous Events

The Rural Olympics hosts some 50 and include some of the most famous and unusual events that test the limits of its athlete’s skills include lifting bicycles with your teeth, also pulling small cars with your teeth and more extreme sports like letting a tractor run over your lower body. Other famous events here are the four lane bullock cart race and the tent pegging race.
