The craze of Indian Premier League (IPL), which started on May, 2008, spread like an epidemic among the Cricket fans all over the Globe. After two successful sessions of IPL, the third one is scheduled to get started off from March, 2010. The first sessions was held in India itself whereas the second one has to fly off to South Africa due to some unavoidable circumstances.

A total of eight teams participate in this tournament namely, Deccan Chargers (DC), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Points Distribution

For the organisation of an event like the IPL, the distribution of points over the matches is very essential and should be tabulated in a proper manner.

In IPL, every winning team is awarded with 2 points and zero point is given to the losing ones. For every tied match, each team gets one point.

Every team play fourteen matches in its initial round. Each team play two matches against every team, one in its home ground and the other in the opponent team’s home ground. Top four teams are qualified based on their points, into the semi finals. But the net run rate is considered for the teams sharing equal points. Finally, top two teams reach the final slot for the final match.
