Sector 16 Stadium

The Sector 16 Stadium is one of the many left out stadium that was originally left out on the ground of having a bigger stadium nearby. The stadium is located in the beautiful city of Chandigarh. It was originally built to support the sudden boom of cricket in the state of Punjab. But with the construction of Punjab Cricket Association Stadium nearby, this stadium is left to be utilized to play First-Class Cricket Tournament.

History of Sector 16 Stadium

The Sector 16 Stadium is a very old stadium with the number of years that have gone passed after the establishment, it is guessed to be around twenty five to twenty six. From a long list of great cricketers that this stadium has produced, we can name some of them such as Kapil Dev, Chetan Sharma and Yograj Singh.

Infrastructure at Sector 16 Stadium

The Sector 16 Stadium is nowadays poorly maintained. The Haryana Cricket Association tried to revive life into this stadium by arranging a match between India and Australia. But this also proved fruitless. Further more, the grasses have been poorly maintained and the floodlights have also degraded over the years, with this reason the night match are not hosted.

The Sector 16 Stadium hosted its first match on 27th of January, 1985. It was a One Day International Game played between India and England. The stadium hosted its first test match from November 23rd to 27th, in the year 1993. The last ODI that this hosted was on 08th of October, 2007. The match was played between India and Australia.

The sector 16 stadium is located in Chandigarh, in Punjab. This stadium is situated near the Chandigarh Airport making it an easy mode of transport.
